Ferrol, March 24, 2011. The president of the Association of Disabled Sociocultural, Angel Garate, went yesterday to the official opening of the vessel adapted "Gure Izar, whose base is at the Grana.
This event was also attended by the President of the Xunta de Galicia, Alberto Núñez Feijoo, the president of the Foundation Aulamar, Pedro Moreno Eulate as well as various representatives of Navantia and Navy.
On behalf of the ASCM, were also the secretary of the ASCM, Lucia Perez, Advisory Board, Basilio Duran, and one of the partners, Joaquim Dasilva.
Last October, when it was not fully adapted the ship, members of the ASCM had made a visit to the ship. It is the only training vessel that allows access for people with disabilities to all its dependencies.
Aulamar Foundation has been commissioned to transform a bonito on a two-masted brigantine with 39.40 meters in length with bowsprit. Accommodates a staff of 32 people, with 8 crew and 24 passengers, capacity can be up to 80 passengers for sailing restricted.
The Gure Izar, has two cabins and a quarter bathroom adapted for wheelchair users, a removable ramp for wheelchair lanes and three hydraulic lifts. There are also plans to install visual signals, sound elements and signs in Braille, which also allow access to people with visual disabilities.
Aulamar Foundation is a nonprofit organization that aims to foster a love of the sea and navigation in the society, especially people with disabilities.
Participants could check on the spot, the boat is fully adapted to travel and people with reduced mobility.
